Covering a Spa and Adjacent Timber Deck with a Freestanding Louvre Roof

David’s outdoor spa sat on a concrete pad beside the main timber deck, with both areas exposed to direct sun and changing weather.

To provide adjustable coverage across the spa and the adjoining section of deck, we installed a freestanding Baltic motorised louvre roof.

Covering Two Different Outdoor Surfaces

The spa and deck were positioned side by side but built on different surfaces and levels. A freestanding structure allowed the roof to span both areas without relying on the home’s brick wall or roofline for support.

The post layout was planned around the existing concrete pad and timber deck, creating one covered zone over the spa and the transition back toward the house.

This was particularly useful for keeping the circulation area around the spa open while avoiding additional work to the home’s exterior.

Adjustable Cover Above the Spa

The motorised louvres allow the amount of overhead cover to be adjusted as conditions change. They can be opened to increase daylight and ventilation, angled for shade, or closed when greater protection is required.

Ventilation is especially relevant above a spa, where heat and moisture need space to escape rather than being trapped beneath a fixed solid roof.

The dark aluminium frame was also selected to coordinate with the spa casing and cover. Integrated LED lighting within the roof provides illumination over both the spa and deck for evening use.

The finished structure gives David more control over two previously exposed areas while keeping the roof independent from the house.
