Creating a More Comfortable Outdoor Room on an Exposed Deck

This large timber deck already had plenty of space for outdoor furniture, but being elevated and exposed meant it wasn't always comfortable to use. Wind was often the biggest challenge, especially during cooler evenings and changeable weather.
To make the area more usable throughout the year, a 6 x 4 m Tasman freestanding louvre roof was installed alongside a combination of sliding glass doors and a motorised outdoor blind.
A flexible setup for changing conditions
One side of the structure is fitted with full-height sliding glass panels. These provide protection from the wind while still preserving the open outlook across the yard. When the weather is calm, the panels can be opened up completely to reconnect the space with the outdoors.
On the adjacent side, a motorised blind provides additional shelter from low sun and breezy conditions. Together, the glass and blind create a much more comfortable environment without making the deck feel enclosed.

Designed around the existing deck
The 6 x 4 m footprint sits neatly within the existing deck area, creating a clearly defined outdoor living zone. The white frame was selected to complement the home's exterior, while the clean lines of the structure help the large deck feel more purposeful and inviting.
The result is a space that can adapt throughout the day. Open when the weather is perfect, sheltered when conditions change, and comfortable enough to enjoy far more often than before.
