Freestanding Tasman Beside the House

Junction Village, Victoria
Tasman Freestanding Pergola · 6 × 3m
Nicole’s Tasman sits right outside the main sliding doors, but the pergola itself isn’t fixed to the house.
The 6 × 3m frame stands independently on the existing concrete patio, with the outer posts set close to the lawn edge. This lets the pergola sit very close to the home while keeping its support separate from the exterior wall and roofline.

It’s a useful setup for this kind of backyard. The covered area starts straight outside the doors, following the footprint of the patio rather than extending further into the lawn. From inside the house, the pergola feels close to the building, even though structurally it stands on its own.
The dark frame also picks up the existing window and door frames, which helps the pergola sit comfortably alongside the house.

For homeowners looking at a freestanding pergola, this project shows that it doesn’t always need to sit away from the home. It can work just as well directly beside it, depending on the space available.
